Fierce Pharma Reports Record Weekly Prescriptions for Two Weight-Loss Pills

Prescriptions for two competing weight-loss pills reached new weekly highs, Fierce Pharma reported on September 11. Novo Nordisk makes the Wegovy pill, while Eli Lilly makes Foundayo. Both are GLP-1 medicines approved to help eligible adults manage their weight.
The figures come from healthcare data company IQVIA, were analysed by the bank Citi and then reported by Fierce Pharma. The publication put weekly prescriptions at approximately 183,000 for the Wegovy pill and 47,500 for Foundayo.
The comparison concerns recorded use of the medicines, not which works better. Totals include refills, so one prescription does not necessarily mean one new patient. Citi also warned that some Foundayo prescriptions supplied through telehealth services may be missing. That gap limits how fully the figures capture each product’s use.
