Fierce Pharma Reports Questions Over Savings From Lilly’s US Drug-Pricing Deal
Updated 23 September 2026
What Is Happening
Fierce Pharma reports that consumer advocacy group Public Citizen has questioned potential savings from Eli Lilly’s drug-pricing agreement with the US government after obtaining documents through a public-records request. Lilly makes diabetes and weight-loss medicines, including Mounjaro and Zepbound.
The agreement is part of the government’s “most favored nation” approach, which seeks to tie some US drug prices to those paid in other wealthy countries. Public Citizen argues that an exception for GLP-1 obesity medicines in Lilly’s agreement could reduce expected savings for Medicaid, the US public health-insurance programme for people with limited incomes.
That is the advocacy group’s assessment, as reported by Fierce Pharma, rather than a confirmed finding that patients are paying more. Much of the agreement remains hidden by redactions. The report therefore raises questions about the scope and financial effect of the deal without resolving them. In response, a US health-department spokesperson directed the publication to a White House statement suggesting the information was already public.
