Reuters Reports Wegovy Weight-Loss Pill Launch in Germany

What Is Happening
Novo Nordisk has introduced its Wegovy weight-loss pill in Germany, Reuters reported on September 1, citing a spokesperson for the drugmaker. Germany is the first European Union country to receive the tablet, following launches in the United States, Britain and the United Arab Emirates.
Wegovy is Novo Nordisk’s prescription medicine for weight management. Both the pill and the injectable version contain semaglutide, which mimics a natural hormone involved in appetite control. The pill is taken daily; the injection is given weekly.
The development is the commercial launch of a different way to take an existing medicine. Eligible patients in Germany can now be prescribed the tablet form. The launch announcement does not itself tell us how many patients will use it or how widely the cost will be covered.
